What Is Social Media?

Social media is a collective term for websites and applications that focus on communication and interactions among people in which they create, share, and/or exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks.

At this point, social media is such an integral part of civilization that your grandma probably has a SnapChat account. Or…gasp… a Tinder account! Yes, Tinder is indeed a social media platform, suited to a very specific use. What you publish lives forever, so tell granny to keep it clean!

Social media has become so prevalent that, depending on your industry, it could be brand damaging to not have profiles on relevant social platforms.

If you execute a Google search for “plumbers near me,” are you going to call the result with three reviews and a 4-star rating, or the one with 100+ and a perfect 5-star rating?

But do not fear. Social media, and the content you curate and share, gives you the power to create the narrative about your brand or business. And gives potential clients the feel of working with you before you ever meet.

Just like a website, social media marketing is your 24/7 storefront, catering to customers via serving information when it is convenient for them.

Think of social media as an employee that never eats, sleeps, underperforms, or takes sick days, and does exactly what you tell them.

“Do I Need Social Media Management For My Business?”

YES!!! Sales and business-centric relationships are radically different than they were even as recent as 5-10 years ago. The sales funnel is obsolete, and what has emerged is more of a circle.

Consumers are forming purchasing decisions and doing research prior to ever calling, emailing,  or meeting with you. And an out of date profile with no published posts for several months or a year looks like you are asleep at the switch. Or even worse, disengaged.

Think about your own habits and the way you filter possible vendors and service providers.

What Is Social Media Marketing?

Social media marketing is the use of social media platforms to publish content and influence/create the narrative around a brand.

Is your brand fun and light? Or stern and rigid? The content you publish on social should reflect the tone and voice you use in your day to day customer interactions appropriate to your industry.

Have you ever published a post on Facebook? Congratulations, you were social media marketing.

Why Should Social Media Be Important To You?

Aside from looking connected and engaged as mentioned above, here are 10 additional reasons why social media, when used correctly, is a huge WIN for you:

  • The platforms themselves are free
  • You communicate directly with customers and interested parties
  • Increases brand awareness
  • It humanizes your brand
  • Stay top of mind
  • Increases website traffic
  • Reputation management – control the narrative
  • Retargeting
  • Allows quick content publishing for urgent scenarios. Example: “Soccer game is cancelled tonight due to rain.”
  • Seperate yourself from your competitors

The people who succeed on social media are the people with the most clever, relevant tactics and the most useful, link worthy content.

If you want to get lots of traffic and increase your sales online, you’re going to have to outwit, out-network and out-write your competition while offering superior products and customer service. Which is what business is about, anyway.

Regardless of industry, there is ALWAYS something interesting you can post about, that people outside of your industry probably do not know.

And even if they DO know, sharing accurate, valuable information builds your credibility.

“Hey, this person knows what they are talking about. I am going to email them.”

What Our Social Media Management Process Looks Like

First, we meet with you to discuss your goals and what is important to you. We want to understand your brand or business and begin strategizing, and listening, immediately.

From there we audit your current “social standing” lol. What platforms do you have accounts on? What has the strategy been thus far? Is the contact information correct? Are the profile image and cover image the correct sizes? Are they pixelated? Are the social platforms that you are on appropriate for your business? We take a deep dive and emerge with a sense of what you are and how we can help.

Next, where will we source content – will we create it all, or will we work with you directly and share pre-existing content? For example, if you have high-quality content on your blog, we will look to utilize that.

From there, we create a content calendar a month in advance. Based on analytics, we determine posting frequency, best days/times of the week to post, and how we want to slant the content.

During the first month, we will get your approval for every piece of content we want to post. This helps us establish a great working relationship and helps us get a feel for YOU.

Typically after month one, most clients go on auto-pilot and let us move forward without approval. The people and brands we work with have a million other things to do, which is why they hired us. After that, we can work with very limited communication and feedback. But, it is always welcome!

After the completion of the first month of social media management, we compile a monthly summary report of all the ensuing month’s analytics. We actively track:

  • Impressions
  • Follower counts
  • Engagements
  • Most popular posts
  • Leads
  • Sales

We also make recommendations for the next months and months ahead. What posts did great? Which ones didn’t. We are constantly actively assessing performance, looking at trends and ways to improve reach and engagement.
